Tata Motors has introduced a new variant of its famous hatchback Altroz with Racer badging. It is not a cosmetic upgrade, at the heart of this new Racer variant is provided with a more powerful 120PS 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine borrowed from the Nexon SUV. Altroz Racer is available in three variants namely, R1,R2 and R3. Price of the car with base R1 variant starts at Rs.9.50 lakh and goes up to Rs.11.00 (ex-showroom) for the top end R3 variant.
We can't find any major changes at the exterior except the racer badging and the new sports inspiring colour theme. A black colored film starting from the top to the bonnet with white lines is the major attraction with this Racer edition.
From the side view, you can find blackened 16-inch alloy wheels which reflects the sporty character of the car. It has the same wheelbase of 2501 mm of the regular Altroz and so the rear seat comfort is not going to hamper even with this sporty Racer edition. Rear view mirrors and window lines are in piano black finish is adding the sportiness from sides.
From the rear too, we can't see any major update on this car. Thick bumper and the LED tail lamps are looking good, I-Turbo+ badging is provided on the boot lid. High mounted stop lamp and rear wiper are provided. Twin exhaust pipe provided on the car boasts its sportiness from the rear. It has a boot space of 345 liter which is sufficient to a family of four to carry the luggage for a weekend trip. A large spoiler and shark finn antenna are also making the car stylish.
At the interior, you can get a new sporty edition interior with a stylish stitching on the seats. It is a black interior with a combination of black and ash colored dashboard. Flat bottom steering wheel provided with the Altroz looks very sporty. A 7-inch semi digital meter console is very clear, and it provides vehicle and drive related information like fuel level, distance to empty, door lock etc. to driver.
A 10.2-inch touch screen infotainment system provided on the car is the same carried over from the regular Altroz. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available in this system. It also housed the controls of music system and rear-view camera of the car.
The front seats of the car are ventilated and are very comfortable for long journeys. These are manually adjustable seats. Driver seat height can be adjusted manually. You will get lot of storage spaces including bottle holders on all four doors of the car. Two cup holders at the centre console, a small storage space under driver arm rest, cooled glove box and wireless mobile charging pad are also provided.
At the rear you will get the same wide 90 degrees door opening and a very spacious back seat as of the regular Altroz. Seat comfort is excellent, you will get ample headroom and legroom at the back. A rear seat arm rest is also provided. Rear A/c vents with mobile charging port are provided for rear passengers are really very useful features on long distance travel.
This new Altroz Racer comes with a single pane voice assisted sunroof, which is an upgrade over the regular Altroz. The car feels more spacious from inside with the addition of the sunroof and large window glass area.

Engine and Performance.
The Altroz racer comes with a more powerful 1199cc 1.2 liter 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which produces 120PS power and 170 Nm torque between 1750 to 4000 RPM is a fun to drive machine. It claims 0-100kmph in 11.3 sec. Unfortunately, the Altroz Racer is available only with the 6-speed manual transmission, there is no automatic transmission variant available even as an option.
The car builds up speed in a linear manner and feels very planted at higher speeds. The manual gear box provided on the car is very smooth and can make gear shifts effortlessly. There are no driving modes are available and the car by default is set in drive mode to provide more enthusiastic driving experience.

From the safety point of view, it is Tata, there is no room for compromise at the safety department. The regular version of the Altroz is tested and scored 5 stars in Global NCAP safety assessment. It is the safest hatchback now available in its class in India.
The Altroz is strong from exterior at the same time it is safer and cocoon you from interior too. The car comes with six airbags as standard, and lot of active and passive safety features are provided in this Racer edition too. Some of them are giving below.
