Ioniq 5 is the latest electric SUV from the house of Hyundai. The car is available only in one variant and the price of the vehicle is Rs.44.95 Lakh Ex.showroom.
The Ioniq 5 is based on the dedicated EV platform, Hyundai calls it as E-GMP or Electric- Global Modular Platform. The more important fact is that the car is assembled in India.
KIA EV6 is also coming from the same platform but is more costlier than the Ioniq 5, as the EV6 is a completely imported vehicle.
The Ioniq 5 is a unique vehicle with its design elements. It looks beautiful and stylish from every angle. The long bonnet, Pixel LED headlamps and DRLs are looking good. An array of LEDs placed above the front bumper lits up very beautifully with the headlights, looks really good at night.
As it is a technology packed vehicle and having several ADAS features, you can see several sensors placed on the front and rear bumper of the car.
Two movable slats are provided on skid plate remain closed to get maximum aerodynamic effect but will open up automatically to cool the battery pack when required.
When come to sides, you will notice the length of the car. The 4635mm length and 3000mm wheelbase making this car more spacious and luxurious.
The Ioniq 5 sits on 20 inch alloy wheels. These wheels are also designed very carefully to cope up with the aerodynamic shape of the car to get maximum range. These wheels are also enhancing the beauty of the car from sides.
Like the EV6 , the Ioniq 5 is also provided with aerodynamically designed plush door handles, which will raise up when you approach the car with its smart key.
Like most of the EVs, the rear of the car is decorated with numerous LEDs. It looks very nice and beautiful from rear.
The car is provided with a rear spoiler and shark finn antena too. But you will miss a rear wiper with the Ioniq 5. Also it is provided with a powered tail gate, the opening height of the tail gate can be adjusted from the front instrument panel. It has a decent boot space of 527 liters. However there is no spare tyre on offer, on that place a puncture repair kit is provided in it.
Like the EV6, it also gets a storage space of 57 liters inside the bonnet too, where you can place the car charger and cable etc with ease.
From exterior, Ioniq 5 is a unique and premium looking car from every angle. Now let's check inside.
It has a wide opening doors, so ingress and egress are not difficult. The car comes with a well contoured seats made from recycled materials are very comfortable.
Three people can sit comfortably at the rear seat. You can adjust the reclining position of these seats manually. Bottle holders are placed on all four doors and you can use the centre arm rest with cup holders if there is no middle passenger on board.
Also you will get several charging points at the front and back of the car. There is a 16A socket provided under the rear seat is very useful to charge the laptop or powering some small equipments in the long distance travel.
With this feature you can power any equipment with an internal socket or charge an Electric scooter up to 3.6kWwith an external connector.
At the front you will get a nice flat bottom two spoke steering wheel. It can be adjusted manually to suit your driving position. Unlike other Hyundai vehicles, the Hyundai logo is replaced with four dots, which represents the Morse code of letter H.
Paddle shifters provided on the steering actually works for regenerative braking adjustments. With these shifters you can adjust the level of regenerative braking required while you drive. You can even stop the car by pulling the left shifter a little long.
12.3 inch touch screen system provided on the car houses several controls and adjustments of the car. Even the settings of ADAS features are also configured with this system. It can support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Same size digital display is provided on the driver side provides real time vehicle status and lot many driving and vehicle related information to the driver.
You will get lot of storage space in the front row. As there is no transmission unit on the front centre console you will get more space here. Two cup holders are provided on the centre console. This centre console can be move backward up to 140mm. An arm rest provided for the driver is also having a decent storage space. USB and wireless charging facilities are provided at the front. The front Glove box opens like a drawer is very unique and is also having a decent storage space.
The car is provided with a premium Bose sound system, which is one of the best available in the premium segment. Moreover, the ambient lighting provided in the car is enhancing its premium look inside.
In short, it is a nice and spacious interior. What makes it more spacious is its fixed glass roof, it is really a nice thing and is making the car more premium too.
PERFORMANCE
The Ioniq 5 is a rear wheel drive car and is powered by a 217hp electric motor with 350Nm maximum torque, extracts the power from 72.6kWh battery pack, which makes the car to sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just 7.6 seconds. The power comes in a linear manner which makes it more user friendly even for the first time EV car users. Like other EVs, the cabin of the Ioniq 5 is also very silent.
It has three driving modes, namely Eco, Normal and Sport and the charactor of the motor changes as per the mode selection. It promises maximum range at the Eco mode and even this mode is adequate for your relax and comfortable daily drives.
The battery takes 6 hour and 55 minutes to get it full charged (0-100%) through an 11kW home charger and takes 57 minutes to get it charged from 10%-80% with a 50kW DC charger but it can be charged 10%-80% in just 18 minutes with a 350kW DC fast charger.
The long wheel base and comfort oriented suspension set up makes the car more comfortable even on the bumpy roads. The 163mm laden ground clearance (193mm unladen) making the car to safe on most of the uneven roads and also on the large speed brakers.
