Grand Vitara has entered into the Indian market with a bang. It has bagged more than 35,000 bookings on its launch. Although it is the twin brother of the Toyota Hyryder, Vitara looks more attractive than Hyryder. Afterall, the aesthetic looks are a personal taste. Price of the car starts at Rs.10.4 Lakh and goes up to Rs.19.5 Lakh ex-showroom.
This car is jointly developed by Maruti and Toyota and is manufacturing in Toyota's plant in the same platform of the all new Urban Cruiser Hyryder . So, technically Grand Vitara is same as the Hyryder. There is only some cosmetic changes are done with this SUV to differentiate it from the Hyryder.
At the front you can see beautiful LED DRLs and Suzuki logo. Projector headlamps are provided on the bumper. There are no fog lamps however. The huge grille and the skid plate are making the Vitara more attractive from front.
We can feel the length and wheelbase of the car from its sides. It has 4345mm length and 2600mm wheelbase and so it is a spacious SUV. The Vitara is provided with 17 inch alloy wheels. Thick claddings are provided along the sides and on the wheel arches. Door handles are provided in body colour. Electrically foldable ORVMs are in black colour with turn indicators fixed on them. With all these things the roof-rails are giving it an SUV stance from sides.
At the rear you can see a long LED strip and tail lamps. They looks more beautiful at night. Rear wiper and high mounted stop lamp and are provided. It is having a boot space of 300 liter which can be enhanced by folding the rear 60:40 split seats.
Also you will get a spoiler and shark-finn antenna with this SUV. Indicators, reverse light and reflectors are provided on the bumper. The muscular bumper and the skid plate are making it an SUV from rear.
The top end of the Vitara gets all black interior.
Front seats are ventilated seats.
Touch and feel of the dashboard is good.
All doors are provided with bottle holders and a storage space is available under the front sliding armrest. It also has a decent glove box. Wireless mobile charger along with 2 USB and a 12V charging points are provided at the front.
At the dashboard you will get a nice touch screen infotainment system. It is coming with lot of connectivity features like remote engine start/stop, A/c on/off, voice assist etc. It also supports AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay and having 360 Dgree camera display too.
The touch and feel of the steering is also very premium. It is a tilt and telescopic steering wheel. Cruise control and volume control switches are provided on it. Suzuki logo is beautifully placed on the steering wheel. You will get a 7 inch driver side display, which will provide all the car related information to the driver.
A head-up display provided on the driver side is a premium feature with the Vitara, this screen can provide several information like vehicle speed, range, time, navigation, A/c fan speed etc. which helps the driver to stay focus on the road and to access the information without looking on the meter console and A/c controls. This is the same system which is provided with the Maruti Brezza , Baleno and on the Toyota Hyryder.
The Grand Vitara available in two engine options, with Strong-Hybrid & Mild-Hybrid variants. The car is also available with Manual, Automatic and also in an eCVT transmission options. An All-Wheel Drive variant is also available with the manual variant.
The Mild-Hybrid versions of the Vitara is powered by Maruti Suzuki's K15 Dual-Jet 4 cylinder petrol engine. It churns out 103PS power and 137Nm Torque. This engine is mated with a 5 speed manual and a 6 speed Torque converter gear box. Both the gear boxes works well with this engine and providing excellent and comfortable driving experience. You won't even find any lag at lower RPMs as the mild-hybrid system assists the engine whenever it required. The cabin of the car is very silent with this four cylinder engine.
On the other hand, the Strong-Hybrid version is powered by a 3-Cylinder engine from Toyota. This engine is little noisier than the 4 cylinder K15 series engine. The 3 cylinder engine with its Strong-Hybrid electric motor set up produces a combined power output of 113PS. It is mated with an eCVT transmission option. It is a good engine and gear box combination.
An interesting fact is that you can drive it in all electric mode if the self charging battery is sufficiently charged. It's amazing right?
The Vitara is also provided with two ride modes namely, Eco and Power. The car gets maximum milage or range in the Eco mode and it reduces with the Sport mode.
At the safety front, it is loaded with lot of safety features.
