Recently the German Automobile giant Skoda has launched its new Sedan Slavia in India. It is the widest,tallest and the longest in terms of wheelbase over its competitors except the VW Virtus, infact both of them are from the same platform.

It is designed specifically for Indian roads by increasing its ground clearance to 179mm. This car is primarily competing with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, VW Virtus, Hyundai Verna and Honda City
From the front, the car looks typical European. It is having a long muscular bonnet and grille. Skoda logo is provided on the bonnet.
LED Headlights with L shaped DRLs are well placed. Halogen fog lamps are provided on the lower bumper. It is very bold looking typical Skoda from the front.
As per Skoda it is a Coupe like design from sides. You can feel the length of the car from sides. It is a 4.5m long sedan and has the wheelbase of 2651mm, which is the longest in the segment (sharing the platform with VW Virtus). It is a long car with large glass area. Strong shoulder lines, which is flowing from the front door to the rear tail lamp unit making the car muscular from sides.
Skoda badging is provided on both sides at front. 16 inch alloy wheels looks beautiful. Electrically foldable ORVMs are fixed with turn indicators. Door handles are in chrome finish. The Aluminium finish on the window lines making the car little more premium from sides.
When comes to the rear side, you will notice the Skoda lettering but you can't identify the engine variant as the variant badging is not provided. But you can find the dual exhaust pipe on 1.5 liter variant.
The LED tail lamps are looking good. There are chrome lines and reflectors are provided on the rear bumper. A shark-finn antenna is provided with piano black finish. Overall, it feels premium from rear also.
When comes to the interior of the Slavia, you can feel the typical European design style. It has a unique three layer dash board. Beautiful A/c vents. Excellent interior clour theme.

Large glass area of the car providing excellent outside visibility and cabin feels more spacious than it is. The two spoke steering wheel looks premium. Paddle shifters are provided on the 1.5liter DSG versions of the car. Chrome inserts are provided on the gear lever.
A 10 inch touch screen infotainment system is provided in this car is very smooth to operate. It will support wireless Android Auto and ApplyCarplay. This system having several in-built apps like Gaana,BBC news, Booking.com etc. Skoda car Connect App is configured with this system. Features like Valet mode, Geo-fencing, Car tracing etc. are provided with the Slavia. There are eight speeker and a sub woofer music system is provided in the Slavia to enrich your driving experience with your favourite rhythms. Also you will get a 8 inch full digital driver side display, through this you can access several vehicle related information easily.
When come to the cabin practicality, the front seats are ventilated leatherette seats. Driver seat can be adjusted manually. There are bottle holders on all four doors. Automatic climate control and wireless mobile charging pad are available. A small storage space is provided at the driver side. Slavia having a cool glove box and a storage space is provided under the front sliding arm rest too. There are two cup holders are provided at the front console and at the charging front, you will get Type C all around the cabin with one 12V socket.
Slavia provides excellent rear seat comfort. Seats are well cushioned. Three adjustable headrests are provided. Three people can sit comfortably. There is a central arm rest with cup holders are provided.
A/c vents with two Type C charging slots are provided for rear passengers. Cabin feels more airy because of the large glass area and sunroof.
When come to the boot, the Slavia boasts 522Liters of boot space. Which is ideal for a short family trip. The boot space can be enhanced by folding down the 60:40 rear split seats.
The Slavia is loaded with some additional features like automatic headlamps and wipers, Key-less entry, auto dimming day night mirror,tilt and telescopic steering adjustments and Push button Start/Stop.
Drivability: The Slavia comes with two engine and Three transmission options. They are..
- 1.0 Liter 3 cylinder Turbocharged petrol engine,available in Six speed Manual and Six Speed Automatic ( Torque Converter) variants &
- 1.5 Liter 4 cylinder Turbocharged petrol engine,available in Six Speed Manual and 7 Speed DSG automatic variants.
The 1.0 liter engine is an impressive engine. It has the maximum power of 113HP and 178NM Torque. Both manual and automatic gear boxes are well mated with this engine. It will give an all-round performance in the city and also on the highways. It has an ARAI claimed mileage of 19.47 kmpl for manual and 18.70kmpl for automatic variant.
But when come to the 1.5Liter engine, you will immediately notice the difference. It is smooth and more refined over the 1.0 liter engine. This engine produces the Max.Power of 147.51BHP and Max.Torque of 250Nm.
It is a very quick and high revving engine. You can make those quick overtakes with ease. Both the Six speed Manual and the Seven Speed automatic DCT gear boxes works well with this engine. Moreover the Paddle-shifters with the DCT variant helps you to get a little more engaging driving experience. This engine has an ARAI claimed mileage of 18.72kmpl for the manual and 18.41kmpl for the automatic variant.
The Slavia feels very stable on highways. It has a well tuned suspension set up. Body rolls are well contained. The steering weighs up well as the speed increases,which increases confidence on highway speeds. The 179mm ground clearance making the car to tackle almost all rough road conditions with ease. It is a well designed car for Indian road conditions.
Sfety: The car comes with loads of safety features. It has Six airbags, Multi-collision braking, traction control, ISOFIX Seat anchors, Brake Disc wiping, Hill hold assist, Tire pressure deflation warning, Reverse camera with static guide lines, Reverse parking sensors, SOS emergency call and many more.
Like in the VW Virtus, you can feel that tough German build quality inside the Slavia.
In conclusion, it is a very tough built beutiful sedan from the Skoda. Slavia is a family car, it can accommodate five people. Having segment leading wheel base, boot space and high ground clearance. It is available in 1.0 liter and 1.5 liter engine variants, moreover giving you the flexibility to opt manual and automatic gear box options. The price of the Slavia starts at Rs.10.99 lakh and goes up to Rs. 18.39 Lakh Ex.showroom. Definitely you can consider this Sedan even after you are in search of an SUV. Because it is an all-rounder.
