TATA NEXON EV MAX

Petrol and Diesel prices are soaring up day by day.Peple are slowly shifting towards electric and Hybrid vehicles. We can see that shift especially in two wheeler sector. There are lot of two wheelers are emerging in Indian market apart from the two wheeler majors like Bajaj, Hero and TVS.

But the shift towards electric four-wheelers is slow when compare to those two wheelers, why? The answer is simple-Range and Affordability. In EV sector one has to compromise range with affordability. To buy a vehicle with good range we have to shell out more money. Here the Tata motors coming with a perfect blend of range and affordability with their all new NEXON EV MAX.

The front grill of the EV Max is closed like the regular Nexon EV for getting maximum range and efficiency.Headlamp having one Halogen for high beam and one Projector type for low beam lighting. Fog lamp with yellow colour light is provided at the bumper. There are 16" alloy wheels which looks beautiful. Roof rails and shark-fin antenna are at the top. 350 liter boot space and 195mm ground clearance are good figures for a compact SUV.

INTERIOR

In the car there is black and beige combination is provided. There is hard plastics on the dash board and on the doors. Steering wheel's touch and feel is very good and it's a beautiful steering wheel. There is a cruise control switch on it which is missing on the regular Nexon EV. Leatherette seats are provided. Front seats are super comfortable and are ventilated too. There is an adjustable sun-roof which make the cabin more brighter and airy. At the dash there is a 7" touch screen infotainment system with Apple carplay and Android auto connectivity features is beautifully integrated. Reverse parking camera is connected on this system.

Electronic parking brake is placed at the left of gear rotary knob. A re-gen mode selector with four re-gen modes i.e. 0,1,2 & 3 modes is also provided at the centre console. DRIVABILITY

Electric vehicles are silent and we can feel that silence immediately. This vehicle starts without making any noise. It accelerates quick which is more than sufficient. It has four drive modes but the City mode is ideal for the regular and comfortable drive. Sports mode will give super-exitement at the same time the battery will be depleted and driving range will be reduced drastically. Eco mode is the best for getting maximum range.

If you drive in city and going through the stop and go traffic you will get higher range because of the re-generative braking function, whereas the range will be reduced if you cruise in higher speeds in highways. It is just opposite to the regular IC engine vehicles.

Regenerative mode selector- With regenerative mode selector we can select the amount of regenerative braking required while on the go. There are four modes in the selector.
  • Mode-0- Can be used for smooth driving and no regenerative braking action will happen on this mode.
  • Mode-1-Ideal for Highway driving conditions.Regenerative braking will charge the battery.
  • Mode-2-This mode is ideal for regular city driving. The battery will be charged as soon as we lift the foot from the accelerator pedal. In this mode the battery will be charged adequately.
  • Mode-3- This mode provides maximum re-generative braking thereby stores more energy in the battery. But this mode is an annoying mode too. The car will stop immediately by lifting the foot from the accelerator pedal, it is just like a hard braking. One need to be get familiar to drive with level 3 re-generative braking mode.

HANDLING

As always Nexon possesses good handling and stability. It is having a light and responsive steering wheel. It is heavier than regular Nexon because of its bigger battery pack. This Nexon having 40.5KWh Li-ion battery pack. The electric motor will produce 143PS maximum power and 250Nm Torque which makes the car sprint from 0-100Kph in 9 seconds.Top speed is capped at 140Kph. In real world conditions we can expect the range between 300-340km even though it's certified range is 437km.

CHARGING

The car can be charged with regular 15amp plug point, this will take 14-15hrs from 10% to 100% charging. Tata is providing a 7.2Kw A/c fast charger with an extra cost of Rs.50,000/- with this the vehicle can be charged from 0% to 100% in 6.5 hours.
